According to the writings of Father Paquin (a Jesuit priest who served Killarney for some years), Solomon Thebo was of Irish descent and was a coast trader originally from Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Mr. Thebo was born in 1805 and died in April 1874. The store he established continued to be operated -- by Thomas Henry Jackman. Mr. Jackman had come to Killarney as a teacher and married Mr. Thebo's daughter Mathilda in 1885. Descendants of Thomas Henry Jackman ran the General Store for many years.
